State leaders, residents gather at the Community Foundation to discuss broadband internet for Northwest Corner

A panel of local officials and area residents convened on Friday, May 14 at the Northwest CT Community Foundation offices for a conference on the need to invest in and expand broadband infrastructure in Connecticut.

Gov. Ned Lamont and U.S. Sen. Christopher S. Murphy were joined by state Rep. Maria Horn as well as regional town leaders and residents to discuss the region’s poor internet and cell phone service.

This issue has especially come to prominence as the pandemic has increased the need for home internet access for both students and adults working from home. Residents who attended the panel expressed frustration at their spotty cell service and internet access. Town leaders expressed concern that these issues have the potential to hurt their town’s economic development.
