Draper Foundation Fund Provides Over $695,250 in Support of Area Nonprofits

The Northwest CT Community Foundation Draper Foundation Fund recently awarded area nonprofits $695,250. The Fund awarded $583,200 to 19 designated nonprofits and $112,050 in donor-advised grants to nonprofits that provide essential programs and services for residents of Northwest Connecticut.

Noteworthy donor-advised grants include:

  • $6,625 to Helping Hands Chore Service to support additional service hours, transportation costs, and website redesign

“Our objective, which is measurable, is to see service hours, and the number of clients served, expand because of this grant,” said Irene Connole of Helping Hands Chore Service. “Serving those most vulnerable in the community, and making a difference in their lives, are the goals of everyone involved in the program.”

  • $10,000  to Town of Colebrook to support a replacement commercial dishwasher and water filtration system for the Senior Center

“We sincerely appreciate all that the Draper Foundation has done for us...,” said Colebrook First Selectman Thomas McKeon.

The following is a complete list of nonprofit organizations that received donor-advised grants from the Northwest CT Community Foundation Draper Foundation Fund:

Connecticut Democracy Center - $9,000 to support the Torrington Region Connecticut History Day Contest, and an outreach educator to increase participation by NW CT schools

FISH of Northwestern Connecticut -$36,650 to support the purchase of a replacement cargo van

Friends of Main Street - $5,750 to support replacement computer equipment and software

Helping Hands Chore Service - $6,625 to support additional service hours, transportation costs, and website redesign

New Beginnings of Northwest Hills Litchfield County - $11,100 to support a larger capacity hot water tank, 2 shower timers, an infrared drone, and 2 months of operating expenses

Northwest Connecticut YMCA -$32,925 to support a replacement van for Camp Rising Star

Town of Colebrook - $10,000 to support a replacement commercial dishwasher and water filtration system for the Senior Center

A $30‐million endowment from the estate of Jim and Shirley Draper of Colebrook, the Draper Foundation Fund represents the largest single gift in the Community Foundation’s history and one of the largest single gifts on record to a community foundation in Connecticut. The Fund, which has grown to more than $37 million benefits mainly local charitable organizations by making yearly awards to nonprofits designated by the Drapers, as well as through annual donor‐advised grants, such as those listed above. Since its creation in 2010, the Fund has awarded over $13 million.
