Grants Available for Organizations Supporting Women & Girls
The Women & Girls Fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation invites nonprofits to apply for grants that serve women and girls in the development of economic self-sufficiency by means of education, financial literacy and social services.Program Grants support programs that serve women and girls in the development of economic self-sufficiency by means of education, financial literacy and social services. Applicants may request up to $5,000 for programs.
Capital Goods and/or Equipment Grants support the delivery of services of nonprofits, such as mattresses for a residential treatment program or the purchase of an item that creates efficiency for the operation of a nonprofit, such as a printer or refrigerator. Applicants may request up to $1,500 for capital goods and/or equipment.
Application deadline: March 8, 2017.
Established as a giving circle in 1999 by a small group of women who shared a concern for the real-life needs of local women and girls, the Women & Girls Fund has awarded more than $50,000 to organizations that work to help women and girls develop skills, attain economic security, and improve their quality of life.
In recent years, the Women & Girls Fund has awarded grants to support summer internship programs and career-development seminars, and provided laptop computers for educational and employment research. The fund has also supported child-care scholarships and transportation assistance for working mothers, programs that enhance economic opportunities and promote self-sufficiency for women leaving abusive relationships, art therapy for mothers and daughters, and leadership-assertiveness workshops for high school girls
