Nonprofits Receive $126,825 in Late Fall Grants from the Northwest CT Community Foundation

The Northwest CT Community Foundation has awarded grants to 21 area nonprofit organizations, totaling $126,825 during its third grant cycle of 2022. NCCF awards discretionary grants to Northwest Connecticut charities three times a year: early spring, late June and November.

Noteworthy among the recent awards include:

  • $2,825 to McCall Center for Behavioral Health to support the cost of training two clinicians in the treatment of eating disorders

“Given the frequent co-occurrence of eating disorders and other behavioral health conditions in our clients, offering this service is essential to our ability to treat the whole individual,” said Shalyn Sheldon of McCall Center for Behavioral Health.

  • $6,000 to NW CT Arts Council to support a comprehensive needs assessment for the arts sector in Northwest Connecticut in 2023

“Over the last two years, the pandemic has created new challenges for the arts community and industry,” said Steph Burr of NW CT Arts Council. “We have been diligently listening to our constituents who are reaching out to us directly. Through this experience we have developed an internal hypothesis on the needs of the sector, but feel it is necessary to open the conversation to more voices.”

  • $8,000 to Susan B. Anthony Project to support the cost of rapid rehousing expenses not covered by existing federal funding when transitioning clients who are in shelters or homeless

“Funds will be utilized to further assist [shelter and community residents’] low-barrier transition from emergency housing or no housing to rapid rehousing, to include necessities such as utility costs and moving costs, which are not covered by the program, and enhanced rental opportunities beyond the one-year rental assistance currently funded through the program,” said Jeanne Fusco of Susan B. Anthony Project.
