Women & Girls Fund Named 2019 Organization of the Year

The United Way of Northwest Connecticut’s Women’s Leadership Initiative recognized the Women & Girls Fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation as its 2019 Organization of the Year.  Reps. Michelle Cook and Maria Horn presented an Official Citation from the state to the Women & Girls Fund in honor of this recognition.

The Women’s Leadership Initiative will celebrate the Woman of the Year (Maria Gonzalez), the Best Supporting Woman in the Role of Fellowship and Service (Gail Marchand), and the Best Supporting Organization in the Role of Empowering Women and Children (The Women & Girls Fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation) at its annual Woman of the Year Gala.  Everyone is invited to join the celebration on Friday, May 10th, 2019 at the Torrington Country Club to learn more about each of the honorees, and their remarkable contributions within our communities.

Each year, funds raised from the Gala along with contributions from generous sponsors underwrites the Women's Leadership Initiative’s Annual Girl's Summit each October. The Girl's Summit is a leadership program for 200 eighth grade girls, designed to teach them skills for navigating the teenage years, to build self confidence and self-esteem, to inspire them to set goals in order to achieve their dreams, and nurture the skills they will need to become successful leaders of tomorrow.
