Puppies Behind Bars - Cornwall Library

Saturday, July 24th, 2021

3:00 pm

Gloria Gilbert Stoga, President and Founder of Puppies Behind Bars, along with Police Officer Jonathan Stackhouse, of the Acton, MA Police Department, will give a presentation on a new and growing trend in the US: police departments acquiring service dogs for help with officer wellness and community relations.

Gloria will explain how Puppies Behind Bars’ dogs are trained in prison by inmates serving long sentences who want to contribute to society, even while incarcerated.

Officer Stackhouse will discuss how Zane, his PBB-raised yellow Labrador retriever, works with him every day both in the police department and in the local community.  Together, they visit senior centers, go into classrooms to work with at-risk students, and much more.

There will be a demonstration of some of the 92 commands that Zane has been taught by his prison “puppy raisers”.

This will be an outdoor in-person Library event, intended to appeal to dog lovers, families, and children.
