Your Community Foundation believes that it’s important to help young people establish positive connections to the communities they live in.
The Youth in Philanthropy program provides young people with an opportunity to discover their philanthropic spirit through volunteering opportunities, fundraising and lessons on charitable giving. Support for Youth in Philanthropy comes from the Borghesi family’s Youth Fund and from donors, private foundations and corporate givers.
Annually, and in concert with the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) council, the Community Foundation makes grants from the Youth Fund to nonprofit organizations in northwest Connecticut. YIP council members examine community issues that are important to them, and research grant opportunities that address these issues.
Council members research community nonprofits, review related applications for funding, make grant recommendations and often become active in fundraising efforts.
